Incredible Cotton by GALY300,000 euro Growing high-quality cotton in a lab instead of on big farms, which has a positive impact on the planet, using less water and no land. The process emits far less greenhouse gas than traditional cotton. And it’s fast, as much as ten times faster than conventional cotton.
Feature Fibres by Werewool250,000 euro Revolutionary fibres derived from nature itself. In the production process, the proteins found in organisms are built into the fabric on a DNA level to make biodegradable materials with the desired colour, stretch, moisture and water repellence. No need for further processing which traditionally puts strain on the planet.
Tracing Threads by TextileGenesis150,000 euro Using blockchain technology to track and verify the use of sustainable fibres all the way from fibre to garment. A digital fibercoin ensures transparency and reliability throughout the entire production line and beyond.
Zero Sludge by SeaChange Technologies150,000 euro Using a powerful jet engine to treat wastewater in the production stages in factories, by turning the toxic sludge into more manageable dry powder and extracting clean water to be released or reused.
Airwear by Fairbrics150,000 euro Instead of emitting carbon dioxide into the air, this innovation collects the gas, activates and transforms it into sustainable polyester fabric that looks and feels like regular polyester.

Global Change Award
Today, the fashion industry puts great pressure on our planet. What if we could make a shift to circular fashion with no waste, no emissions and no pollution?
This means changing the way garments are designed and produced, shipped, bought, used and recycled, by adding disruptive technology or new business models. All with the purpose of creating a closed loop where resources are used and reused indefinitely.
In 2015, the non-profit H&M Foundation initiated the Global Change Award to speed up the process of making the fashion industry circular, to ultimately protect our planet and living conditions. With more than 20,000 entries from over 200 countries and territories since the launch, it has become the go-to challenge for circular innovation.
Neither the H&M Foundation nor H&M Group will take any equity or intellectual property rights in the innovations.

What you win
The five winners of Global Change Award share a 1 million euro (approx. CNY 7,9M) grant and get access to a one-year long Innovation Accelerator Program, designed to help them bring their innovations to market.
The accelerator is run by H&M Foundation together with our partners Accenture and KTH, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. To connect the teams with the industry and to boost their exposure and confidence, we take them on three intensive immersion weeks in Stockholm, New York and Hong Kong. In between these trips, the winners work from their home countries with access to virtual sessions and personal assistance from all three partners of the Global Change Award.
